Windows Live Office consists of integrated Internet services that include conferencing features, work-group management tools and document sharing. A main feature of Windows Live Office is the ability to present online meetings using audio and video components. Windows Live Office is also used for help desk support and training of end users in applications over the Internet. There are several minor potential issues when using Windows Live Office applications, which can often be solved through troubleshooting the program.

Audio Problems

There are times when Windows Live Office has poor audio quality which makes it difficult to hear audio for meetings and conferences. Audio may also be distorted or have an echo or delay. Microsoft suggests the following remedy to solve audio problems. Run "Audio and Video Setup" through the Windows Live Office console, follow the step by step instructions to test audio and after the audio is tested and sounds clear, click "Apply." Microsoft recommends that other applications which use memory are closed when using the audio portion of Windows Live Office.

ActiveX Errors

When logging on to a Windows Live Office meeting, security settings within Live Office can prevent the execution of an ActiveX program needed for a certain function. This might cause a page not to display or produce a blank browser window. The recommended solution to fix this problem is to access Internet Explorer, click "Tools," then click "Internet Options." The "Internet Properties" dialog box will appear. Click the "Security" tab and "Select a Web Content Zone" to specify its security settings box. Choose "Trusted Sites," and then click "Sites." In the Trusted Sites dialog box, clear the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" check box. Since ActiveX is a component of Windows Update, the final step is to add the update address for ActiveX controls. In the "Add this Web site to the zone" text box, enter http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate, then click "Add." This should automatically install the latest ActiveX updates to view Windows Live Office meeting.

Data Execution Errors

When logging on to Windows Live Office, data execution errors can cause the Windows Live Office to shut down. Windows Live Office uses the Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 Data Execution Prevention feature to block out viruses and malicious software, and if Windows Live Office is not in the program list, the program won't execute. The solution for eliminating false data execution errors is to customize the security settings by using the following procedures. Click "Start," click "Run," type "appwiz.cpl", and then click "OK." In the "Currently installed programs" list, click "Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2005," and then click "Remove." Click "Yes" when prompted. Click "Start," then "Run," type "control printers", and then click "OK." Right-click "Microsoft Office Live Meeting Document Writer," click "Delete," and then click "Yes" at the prompt.
